Episode 1

Shakuhachi

Horacio Curti is one of the very few foreign masters of the Japanese flute around the globe. Born and raised in Argentina, he discovered this instrument in the Himalayas of India, and soon started taking classes with Kakizakai Kaoru in Japan. Over 25 years later, now living in Spain, Horacio is still as captivated by the sound of shakuhachi as that fateful day in the Himalayas…

Besides playing and teaching shakuhachi, Horacio is a recognized ethnomusicologist. He wrote a PhD thesis on the aesthetics of sound in hōgaku (traditional Japanese music) and gives lectures at ESMUC (The Catalonia College of Music). As an active member of the European Shakuhachi Society, he has also been heavily involved in promoting the Japanese flute across borders by organizing workshops and concerts.

Horacio has so far released 2 solo albums, Ichi (2009) and Home is Now (2016). You can enjoy his hypnotizing music on Spotify
