Episode 6

Pottery

Evelyn is a Mexican ceramist, designer, and illustrator. Boris is a French educator and photographer; he is also a practitioner of the traditional Japanese wood joinery and wood turning. The couple lives and creates pieces together, and since 2020, they run a special project called Sitio Serendipia.

‘Serendipia’ means a ‘fortunate, unexpected discovery’, and that is exactly what Sitio Serendipia offers: immersive experiences where one learns about a local culture through its arts and crafts. One such experience is a 2-week ceramics course in Tokoname, a town famous for its pottery. Tokoname boasts one of Japan’s six ancient kilns and a number of unique techniques that have been preserved for over 1000 years. During their stay, the participants can see, feel, and taste Japanese culture in between workshops, nature walks, and encounters with the craftsmen.

Sitio Serendipia will return to Japan this year – to learn more, visit www.sitioserendipia.com
